Beyerdynamic T5p 2 Review

Along with Sennheiser, Audio Technica, and Bose, Beyerdynamic is well known audio electronics maker. Beyerdynamic is known for their Custom One Pro headphones where you can adjust the amount of the bass. Many companies attempted to implement this feature, but Beyerdynamic was the first one to make this technology work.

Beyerdynamic T5p is their high end headphone that is estimated to cost whopping $1299. Well, if we consider the price of Sennheiser’s HD800’s, the price should make sense based on its performance. Let’s take a look.

Build quality

The build quality of this headphone is simply amazing. It is made out of all metal and is hand made in Germany. Despite of its metal framing, the headphone is super light weight and comfortable to use it for long period of time. The ear cups are made out of soft and breathing premium memory foam. This ear cup shouldn’t die within few years of use like what other cheaper headphones tend to do.

Sound quality

Overall, it was a satisfying sound. I tried T5p listening to Billie Jean by Michael Jackson, Shake It Off by Taylor Swift, and Hotel California by Eagles.

The bass is punchy, and it is very distinguishable from mids and highs. However, the bass in this headphone sounded little bit overpowering for me. Mid tone was very accurate and well toned. I think the mids are the strongest part of this headphone. Highs are bit lacking when mixed with heavy basses, but is is accurate enough. Sadly, when I was using very high volume, I witnessed slight tear on the mid tone.

For $1299 headphone, the sound signature did not met my expectations. I think the Custom One Pro had better sound signature. Maybe because I like flat frequency, I may not liked bass and mid driven headphone, such as T5p. Personally, I will give 7/10.

Conclusion

Headphone is a very subjective topic to review or discuss about. Everyone has different ears and have different sound preferences. Some may like bass heavy headphones, but some may not. If you are a fan of flat frequencies and like Audio Technica’s ATH-M50, this review maybe helpful for your buying decision.

Beyerdynamic T5p will be available end of this January.
