CES 2018: Razer

Razer tends to be one of the most famous booth during CES due to their high popularity within millennials. From computer accessories to high end gaming laptops, Razer provided and showcased lovely products to our gamer’s hands.

This year, Razer brought something little different. They are entering the phone market. It seems like many companies are moving into the phone industry. Although I personally think Razer’s decision is not the greatest, let’s see what they have to offer.

Razer Phone

Specifications:

  • Qualcomm Snap Dragon 835
  • 8GB RAM
  • 4000 mAh battery
  • 5.7 inch 1440p 120hz IPS Display
  • Finger Print On/Off Button
  • Front facing Dolby ATMOS speaker
  • USB C, comes with 3.5mm adapter with DAC
  • Aluminum body, same materials used in their laptops

As Razer is well known gaming brand, specifications are promising. Overall, the first impression was outstanding. 120hz display really makes all the difference. Personally, I thought 120hz or 144hz on computer monitors are little overrated; However, on the phone, it’s totally a deal maker. The smoothness and snappy animation makes it feel like the device is much faster than it really is.

It is little tough to listen to front facing speakers in the show floor. Though, putting the phone right next to my ears listening, this phone can deliver theater like experience on your hand. Although you can’t avoid your phone from vibrating due to high bass, but the sound experience is exquisite.

Sadly, since Razer is focusing on their speakers and display, water resistant feature is not present. As many of us know, it is extremely difficult to make speaker water resistant while keeping the best sound quality.

Overall, I think the phone is great in some areas. If you love watching movies and videos on your phone, maybe Razer phone is right for you. If you’re looking for more of all around great phone, you may have to reconsider.

Razer phone is already in the market for $699. They’re also making limited edition with green Razer logo on the back (in store only). Check them out!

Project Linda

Project Linda is so far a concept; However, very promising concept. Long in short, it is an extension for your phone. Since mobile phones now days are so powerful in performances, many people demands to play phone games on a larger screen; Project Linda, it basically converts your phone into a laptop. You can dock and undock your phone where the mouse pad usually sits. Once it is docked, you have a full laptop on your hand. Although my personal thoughts on Linda would be: “why not just get a laptop?”, but some people will appreciate this idea to further enhance their phone gaming experience.
